Project "Surf"

Posted by Brendan Clarke on August 25th, 2009

The other day, I created some mockups for the perfect Mac OS X web browser (at least from my perspective) and I’d thought I’d share my interesting, though slightly shaky results.

Design is far from perfect and it all needs cleaning up if it were to ever become ‘real’, but as this is just an idea at present, there are no worries.

The Sketches

I first sketched some ideas down.

The Mockups

Poorly executed mockups of what it may look like (or similar to) as an application. This would need to go through further design development, research and certainly require cleaning up if the application were ever to be made.

Technical Notes

  • WebKit (with support for nightly builds etc)
  • Pop-up blocking
  • Private Mode
  • Google Gears support
  • Bookmark Shelf (optional shelf to the left, aimed at web applications)
  • Web-App saving (saved as an SSB/window without location & navigation controls)
  • Processing for each tab (each tab has its own process, making the browser more stable)
  • Unified Location Bar (URL’s and searching in the same bar)
  • Views (view at Grid, Slide or Preview tabs whilst browsing)
  • Growl notifications (for downloads, tabs/processes, software updates and more)
  • Fullscreen/Kiosk
