YouTube may offer Movie Rentals

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Google is supposedly in talks with major movie studios with the intention of getting them onboard to offer paid film rentals on YouTube, to be rolled out by the end of the year.

YouTube has been streaming films from smaller independent studios since January, but it now seems that it feels ready to expand into more commercial territory. Whilst it will likely be an accessible service, the success will be dependent upon the pricing (rumoured to be $5.00), especially since the service will not allow downloading.

The fact that you will be locked into streaming with no option of download is quite disappointing in some areas, but it is also an indication that the upcoming Google TV will play a big role in offering the rental films (since Google TV requires an internet connection).

Of course, all of this information is based on hearsay and although it is probably accurate, we cannot assume it to be so until we hear something from Google.

Besides, there is another rumour going around that Apple will be releasing a large update to its Apple TV on Wednesday, turning it from a hobby to a major product. I’ll certainly be interested in seeing what Apple brings to the table, either way it seems everyone wants a slice of the home-entertainment cake.

The Best Film Scores

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

I love films and I love music, so when a film score is well written, I notice it.

The soundtracks below were very carefully selected and well thought out; they are tracks that give me goosebumps or they bring a tear to my eye. They are amazing and inspiring scores because they were well written to do their task, whether it was get ones heart beating during an action scene or making you sad when something emotional happens.

Music is extremely powerful and hopefully this journey will prove that. So sit down, set aside an hour and use a decent sound system (or headphones) and I promise you wont be disappointed if you have any love for music/film.

Links are YouTube links for ease/previewing… to get the effect, you must listen to the tracks in their entirety. No skipping.

Honourable mentions go to: Theme by Jon Brion (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel (Wall-E) and Forest Gump Suite by Alan Silvestri (Forest Gump).

If I have missed anything, let me know.

Inglourious Basterds

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I’ve just gotten back from watching Quentin Tarrantino’s Inglourious Basterds. It pains me to write the title (two misspellings), however, it certainly doesn’t pain me to watch it.

I’m only two weeks late to watch it and my intention was to see it on the day of release, but I’ve been busy lately and have just managed to finally indulge myself. It’s one of Tarantino’s better films, not that he has managed to create a poor film (yet). The film is comparable to Pulp Fiction (yes, I’ll go with that bold statement).

I’m not going to review it, I’m too late for that. Instead, I’m simply going to urge those who haven’t yet seen it, to do so.
